Are You Playing Chicken?

The other day I have lunch at the KFC Big Chicken in Marietta, Georgia.

It is a sign post of sorts, because most people in this area say if you pass the big chicken your heading in the right direction.

Who would have thought a big bird would be elevated to the place of giving one a sense of direction :-)

As I was eating lunch, I began to think about the game of chicken I used to play when I was a kid and think maybe some of us as adults are still playing chicken.

If there is one thing I have learned over the years, is the enemy likes to play chicken with us, to see if at the last moment, we will swerve, when he confronts us with the battles of life.

Do we let it get us out of focus? To sidetrack us, so that we look at the situations rather than staying focused on the Lord, knowing that He will show Himself strong and mighty, on our behalf.

The enemy likes to try and sidetrack us by the things that we are going through in our lives. He wants to keep us from growing, maturing in our walk and relationship with the Lord.

The enemy knows that as we grow in the Lord, in the word, in relationship with the Father, we will over come satan and all his tactics.

The Lord has taken away the fear, the anxiety. He is removing all those things that hinder us in our growth. He is building us up. Molding and shaping us to be vessels of honor in His hands.

We are and will be conformed to the Lord. That the new life in Christ indeed is coming forth. That in the lifting up of the Lord in our lives, will draw others to want to know more about Him.

Don’t play chicken with the enemy!

Stand!

Be strong and he, the enemy will flee from you, for He that is in you, is greater than he that is in the world!!

I’m reminded of the scene in “Groundhog Day” when Murray’s character is living our his fantasy of playing chicken with a train. He says: “I’m betting that he is going to swerve first!”

  2. Paul Says:

    Hi Curious Servant,

Hard to think of that being an old movie now.

When I think of playing chicken, one of the things I see in my heart, is that we often are right at the point of a break through in what the Lord has for us and at the last momement, we swerve, we panic, rather than staying focus on the Lord.

Knowing that the Lord is the engineer of this train, and the enemy will be the swerve, because we know the Father will bring us through.

Thanks for blogging by my friend. I always appreciate it when you do.

To true, we play chicken all to often. It is good to be reminded that the Lord will pull us through. Enjoy your chicken. We don’t have fancy signs like that out in Oregon.

    Great post Paul!

Don’t think I’ve ever seen a big chicken used for KFC…I remember when (back in the 70’s) they used to have the big giant bucket that would turn around and around for a sign…

Great post Paul. We must alway keep our focus on God, because if we loose that focus we can miss what God has planned in our lives.

I have been out to Oregon, Coosbay. My Father lived there till he passed away a few years back. It was 1991 when I was there.

I moved here to Georgia, after being in Texas for the last thirty years.

Wow Paul how can you find the time to answer every individual comment? I’m amazed. Thanks for blogging by the dishpan. I always like it when you come by. It lends an air of authority to my site somehow. Lol

  16. Paul Says:

    Hi Mrs. Darling,

    Hey, thanks for blogging by!

I have been catching up with everyone.

The main reason I can find time to answer, is because time is
one of the things that I have plenty of since I am on full
disability now, so I take time to reply, if I can.

For about six weeks I was not doing too much because of being
sick and under the weather and now I am somewhat back to
    normal :)

It is always a blessing to visit Dishpan Dribble. I always
    come away with smile!

    Thanks for the encouragements :)

    Blessings to ya!!

Your post was good and reminds me of my current state of affairs. It’s easy to let the hustle and bustle of life distract us from what God has put on our hearts. I think it’s one of Satan’s greatest strategies and often, he wins…even if only for a time. It’s a battle that creeps in so slowly we often don’t realize it’s taken place until it’s too late…when we have to sink or swim…when we realize we haven’t been listening as we should’ve been. But thankfully, God will take us back and steer us in in the right direction when we stop and let Him.

  18. Brooke Says:

    Hi Paul,

Great post! I agree that sometimes the enemy comes right at us to try to scare us or get our eyes off of God and make us swerve away from God’s will. But like the Veggie Tales song says, “God is bigger than the boogie man…” Or if you prefer 4 Him’s song, God is “bigger than life.” The point is that when it comes down to it, Satan cannot stand against the One who is in us because he (Satan) is rendered powerless over us so long as we keep our eyes on God.

Again, thanks for sharing, my brother, and keep up the great work!

    Brooke

I am so thankful that the Lord indeed takes us back, puts back on course and brings us into the direction He intended for us all along.

    Hi Brooke,

What a blessing to have you blog by my friend!

I love Veggie Tales, as a matter of fact, one of my friends at church, I call Bob The Tomatoe.

Had to explain Veggie Tales too Him :)

Indeed God is bigger than life. Christ within is stronger than anything the enemy can throw at us.

Thanks for the encouragment. I will indeed keep sharing :)

    Be blessed,

    Paul
