Letters To The Father

Over the last few weeks the Lord has really been blessing me in ways that I would never thought possible.

I have been keeping a personal journal for over twenty-five years now. In the last couple of weeks I have added to it a prayer journal called “Letters To The Father.”

I have begun each morning letting the first words I write, be to my Father. Writing my prayers, my thoughts. How I feel, the questions I have!

I let Him know that I am upset, angry or don’t understand. I let it all out and give it all to Him.

And you know what? It has been a great release, a blessing, as I open myself to my Father. It has brought a release to my spirit and healing as I just wrote Him, gave it all to Him. It was between Him and I. In the writing I sense His presence, a release of burdens I could not bear.

He desires our communication, our fellowship, in prayer, in writing, because it opens our heart to Him so He can do the work that is needed to heal wounds!

In writing it makes me focus more. To not be in a rush but allow my heart and spirit to be open and pliable to the Holy Spirit.

During these times, I am learning to hear that still, quiet voice of the Lord. It produces a quietness within and meaning to that verse “be still and know that I am God.”

In the stillness, a calmness is brought, that is beyond words. That peace that passes all understanding.

An assurance. A knowing that my Father hears me, hears you and delights in our time together with Him! These letters, these words are to Him. It allows us to express the pains, the hurts, the anger as well as the joys. The rest and peace that comes from this time with Him, is priceless.

Our Father really looks forward to the times that we spend with Him. It delights and brings joy to His heart.

We are getting to know Him intimately. In prayer, in writing in my case, it brings a difference to the day as I focus on Him, with that doves eye, that single eye that stays focused on Him.

Take time to start your day in prayer or write in your journal. Talk to Him or write Him and as you keep pursuing Him, you will see change in yourself, in your relationship with your Father!

Hey Paul. Journaling and writing out our prayers is such a good way to keep track of what the Lord is doing over a period of time in our hearts. Do you have favorite notebooks to journal in, or are you using a special journaling software?

Hope you’re doing well. Catch you again soon!

  2. Susie Says:

i agree, journaling is a great way to write a prayer. I do it pretty faithfully, haven’t always. Then I keep going back and deciding i’m a big whiner and throwing them away. i sort of regret that, but it’s too late. so i’ve started another one, and plan on keeping it. One of the things i’ve been guilting myself about is my stubbornness and obstinence/strongwill. well it occurred to me this week that these very things about myself are what has helped me to survive and not give up. without a strong will, and ability to dig my heels in, i would either be someones little puppet slave, or i would be dead at my own hands. so for what seemed like a curse, i now thank God, and know that He has something special in mind for me that I have yet to find out about.

Wonderful post! I always come away from your site refreshed and uplifted…

Thank you, too, for your kind comments on my new blog writings…

  4. Shelley Says:

What a great idea! I’m bad with journals…I love the idea and wish I had one again. I used to have one for a few years but then I stopped writing in it because I didn’t really have anything to say, except the same old things…well sometimes I’d have something but looking back on them now I hope no one sees them…things that I feel ashamed about are in there. Maybe if I were to start one now there could be a comparison made…before Jesus and after Jesus. I find writing on my blog is a good way. I’m a faster typer than writer so that helps. I had thought of printing out blog entries…but I haven’t. I enjoy reading journals belonging to others…that is published ones…ones from long ago. Maybe someday soon I’ll start one again…

Lord, thank you for Paul. Forgive me for failing to pray with him this morning before I left Starbucks. Let him know how loved he is and that he is of great value. I know you see every tear that falls. I know he loves you with his life, give him peace. In Jesus name I pray. Amen

Hope you’re feeling better. I’m honored that you would open up to me like you did this morning. Wanted to let you know you’ve been in my thoughts and prayers.

    Your Sis In Christ,

    Hi Vicki,

I am just a little behind and in the process of catching up :)

I think the Lord teaching me to spend time with Him writing as a means of having conservations with Him.

I am not using any particular kind of journal, though I have been looking at some at Office Depot, Staples.

Looking for Hardcover, with Journal notebooks that can be inserted when one is filled up.

I do keep it on the computer also. I use Microsoft Word and also Open Office which I am beginning to like more than office.

Blessings my friend. Thanks for blogging by and checking in on me.

    Writing for the King,

    Paul

  10. Paul Says:

    Hi Susie,

    Thanks for blogging by!

I have kept them. I used to throw them away if they had mistakes, etc.

But I been keeping like they are now for the last 15 years. Plus as I told Vicki, they are on the computer also.

My kids know the password, etc. They know it is for them to read sometime down the road.

I thank the Lord that He has given you the strength to press in, no matter what, to press in is very important.

I believe the Lord will bring into your life that special someone. Sometimes it is hard to be still and allow the Lord to work, but if we will, He will.

Blessings to you and thank you again for blogging by and for the encouragement.

    Writing for the King,

    Paul

  11. Lawrence Says:

    Dear brother,

I am not much of a person who writes journals and such. I am just keeping up with my prayer life…But it’s true in what you said, and what sister Brooke said about waking up and focus on spending time with Him in the morning. The first fruit is what God desires, not leftovers, and it’s a good way to start the day with God. I have trouble doing that in the morning….so I do it at night. Not too good…btu I will try to change that. Thanks for sharing brother, I am blessed!

    In Him,
    ~Lawrence~

  12. Lawrence Says:

By the way brother, what’s your email again?

  14. Vicki Says:

Hi Paul! I was glad to see your comments here today, as I’ve been thinking about you and praying for you–wondering how your week has been. I’ve not forgotten that I owe you a cup of coffee….keep that raincheck in mind:-) May the Lord bless your holidays with His sweet peace and presence, and shower you with the love of friends and family.

    Blessings & hugs,
    Vicki

  15. Deb Says:

It’s amazing when you sit–and ‘become still’ for God. A lot of people don’t hear the voice, because of background noise, life’s disturbances and other distractions. When we pray, ever realize the phone rings? Someone needs you- or just a thought that distracts you? Amazing how the evil one works, right?

I wish you nothing but peace, happiness and health. Peace that comes from God; happiness that comes from within—from having a personal relationship with Him, and health that only our Father can watch over.

Thank you for sharing your thoughts and feelings with the blogger world. You don’t know what a difference it makes in other people’s lives. God will bless you ten times over!

My prayers are with you—Enjoy the holiday season!

    God bless…

  20. Paula Says:

What a joy! I’ve often penned my prayers. I, too, find that it helps me focus and draws me more intimately into Christ. Great post, my friend.

  21. Paul Says:

    Hi Shelley,

For the first couple of years it was a little hard, until I realized it did not have to be a daily journal.

I just wrote into it as I felt to do. But now, with the letters to the Father, I will try to be a little more diligent and writing it down.

Hill Country Thoughts started out as a blog but it has become more than that to me. It has become a means of reaching out and ministering to others. Hopefully to encourage others in the walk with the Lord.

Each one of us is unique and the Lord uses various means of communicating Himself to us. I too, am faster with the keyboard :)

Blessings to ya Shelley. Thanks for the encouragement!

    Paul
