Oh, What A Joy!!
One of the joys of my life are my grandchildren. They are such a blessing, they really are!! Though I am sure that their Mom and Dad don’t always think so. I can remember thinking that a time or two over the last thirty years. Having grandchildren is like having a second chance, to see in them a reflection of your children who are a reflection of you.
I was talking to my grand-girl Rebekah, age 7, ( I always call her grand-girl). I was so blessed as she read to me from the “Chronicles of Narnia” by C.S. Lewis. She began to explain the characters too me, what they meant, what her mom and dad had told her. I was so blessed by her child like faith and the excitement in her voice as she read. I was so proud of her, as I am of my grandsons, Jordan, age 5 and Keian, age 3.
The boys are a handfull, as most boys are, ask my mom, she will agree with you. I was more than one person deserved (That is a whole story in itself, someday, I will have to share that. My children want me to write about it because they think no one would believe how accident prone I was during my youth. But I think I am also a testimony of the prayers of a mother answered) But when I talked to Jordan, Keian and Rebekah, it really melts my heart, when they call me papa, there is just something about the grand kids, that get to you. They are so special and I am so blessed to have them, as well as my daughters Gloria and Elise and my son Joshua. Their mother and I are proud of them.
We have the privilege in the Lord to pray for our children, our grandchildren, to minister to them, to teach them, to bless them in the name of the Lord. I don’t think there is a greater honor we can have then to be a Father or mother, grandmother or grandfather. We are giving the opportunity to refect the reality of our Lord Jesus Christ to them, that they would see what it means to walk in the ways of the Lord.
I would have to say that up till about two and a half years ago, that I was not the best example. Oh, I was a Christian, I was just not the example that I should have been, I did not reflect the reality of the Lord in my life in the way that I should, I did not reflect the reality of what the name Christian means, being a follower of Christ, an example to others.
But over the last two and a half years radical changes have taken place in my life because of what I have gone through and it got my priories in order and that is when changes began. My desire is to live the life of Christ, to reflect the reality of His word, of His presence to my children and grand-children. To show that child like faith that Rebekah shared with me on the phone the other day.
Have you blessed your kids or grandkids lately? Do you let them know how special they are, that they are a joy, even when they want to make you pull your hair out at times. We are to love them, to bless them and encourage them in the faith, in the ways of the Lord.
Our children and our grandchildren are gifts from God to us. Let us give thanks to the Lord for them. Let us lift them before the Lord. To hedge them about with prayer.
Hug you children and grandchildren today! Just hug them and let them know that they are loved. Loved of you and loved of the Lord
Till later,
Paul
